Rosemary essential oil comes from the leaves and flowers of the popular rosemary herb (Rosmarinus officinalis) and is a refreshing and invigorating oil with a woodyherbal scent.
Rosemary oil contains the active compounds carnosol, rosmarinic acid and caffeic acid which haveanti-oxidant, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and expectorant properties. It can be used aromatically and topically to reduce spasms and inflammation of the airways as well as a treatment for coughing, asthma and bronchitis.
It can boost memory and focus, which has been linked to one of its active compounds called 1,8-cineole. This makes rosemary oil useful when driving long distances, studying and working late.
Rosemary oil may reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol which results in a calming oil that may treat anxiety. It is also an effective insect and mosquito repellent.
