TADKA DAL (SPLIT PIGEON PEA LENTILS) IN INSTANT POT

INGREDIENTS:
Toor Dal (Split Pigeon pea lentils) – 1 cup (rinsed) – Super Toor Dal
Water – 3 cup
Oil – 2 tsp
Clarified butter (Ghee) – 2 tsp
Asafoetida (Hing) – ¼ tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Cumin seeds – 2 tsp
Whole red chilies – 2-3
Curry leaves – 3-4 leaves
Ginger paste – 1 tsp
Green chili paste – 1-2 tsp
Salt – as per taste
Shan Dal Masala – 2 tsp (Shaan Dal Masala)
Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp
Lemon – ½ tsp
Garam Masala – 1 tsp (Super Garam Masala)
Cilantro – 1/3 cup
INSTRUCTIONS:
In the instant pot, add oil and ghee. When oil is hot, add Hing, Mustard Seeds and let it sputter. Then add Cumin Seeds, Whole Red Chilies and Curry Leaves.
Add raw Toor Dal, 2 1/2- 3 cup Water, Ginger, Green Chili paste, Salt, Lemon, Shaan Dal Masala and close the lid
Pressure cook it for 10-12 minutes
Let it have natural release
Open the lid, add Garam Masala and Cilantro and boil for another 5 minutes
Ready to be served
Note:
You can soak the lentil for an hour ahead of time
You can use Mixed Lentil instead of just Toor Dal (Split pigeon)
If you do not have an instant pot, you can use a Pressure Cooker to make this recipe.
